Robert Deblander – Bowl

280

This earthenware is from Robert Deblander’s early creative period, between 1950 and 1957. The combination of a geometric pattern and figurative elements suggest that this is one of the earliest works by the artist. Indeed, Robert Deblander soon afterwards turned to more abstract designs.
The artist’s works are today present in many public collections such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Musée National de Sèvres, or the Friechen Museum in Cologne (Germany).

BIOGRAPHY

Robert Deblander (1924-2010) is one of the major ceramists of the second half of the 20th century. Although he first studied at the École nationale des Arts Décoratifs (National School of Decorative Arts), it was at Dieulefit (France) that he learned ceramic techniques. In the course of his career, he successively modelled earthenware, stoneware and porcelain to fashion works of great elegance. His creations are marked by a permanent search for formal purity and an exemplary quality of realization.
