Robert Deblander – Vase

740

This earthenware is from Robert Deblander’s first creative period between 1950 and 1957. The elegance of the form is here animated by a decoration in shades of blue which evokes, by its movement, the works of the French lyrical abstraction (Abstraction Lyrique) which then emerged during the 1950s.

Robert Deblander, earthenware vase, circa 1955.

BIOGRAPHY

Robert Deblander (1924-2010) is one of the major ceramists of the second half of the 20th century. Although he first studied at the École nationale des Arts Décoratifs (National School of Decorative Arts), it was at Dieulefit (France) that he learned ceramic techniques. In the course of his career, he successively modelled earthenware, stoneware and porcelain to fashion works of great elegance. His creations are marked by a permanent search for formal purity and an exemplary quality of realization.
